Our mission

We efficiently model and implement adaptation strategies that are resilient and positive for the environment.
The founders' manifesto for further details
1. Our mission: ensuring the sustainability of our societies in an uncertain world
Faced with the uncertainty of tomorrow’s world, we have set ourselves the fundamental mission at adaptation/s of helping to ensure a viable and desirable future for humanity. For us, this requires a profound transformation of our economic models.
We have made climate resilience the core of our commitment. We define it as the ability of a company or region to anticipate, absorb, recover from and adapt to the shocks and stresses associated with climate change, whether physical or socio-economic. It is this capacity that we are committed to building with our partners, to enable them to navigate an environment where physical risks (extreme events, slow-onset changes) and transition risks (socio-economic transformations) combine and intensify.
2. Our approach: positive adaptation as a complement to essential mitigation
We do not in any way disparage mitigation (i.e. reducing emissions); most of our founders have devoted a large part of their professional lives to it, and we support it more than ever. We advocate the idea that it is the first and most urgent lever for resilience. Unfortunately, however, it will not be enough. The impacts of climate change are already here and accelerating. Adaptation is therefore no longer opposed to emissions reduction: they are simply two sides of the same coin.
That is why we are working in parallel with mitigation, focusing first and foremost on the concrete challenges of physical risks and the need for rapid adaptation. However, our approach goes beyond simple protection. We are committed to developing and promoting positive and regenerative adaptation solutions. In concrete terms, this means:
- Quantifying to act fairly: We use robust methodologies to quantify the risks and return on investment of solutions, enabling informed and effective decisions.
Avoiding ‘mal-adaptation’: We combat short-term responses that could create new vulnerabilities or hinder sustainable development. - Leveraging living systems: We prioritise strategies that contribute to ecosystem regeneration, incorporating nature-based solutions and moderation.
3. Our vision: from adaptation to reinvention
Ultimately, we believe that true resilience will come from reinvention. To survive and thrive, we will need to break down the traditional silos between mitigation and adaptation.
Our goal is to use climate as a catalyst for reinvention. By combining the low-carbon transition with adaptation capacity, we help companies to fundamentally realign their business models: rethinking offerings, products, means of production, business models and value chains so that they are not only resilient to the constraints of tomorrow, but also useful, desirable and positive in this new paradigm. It is this transformation that will enable us to build a truly sustainable long-term trajectory.
